When I wrote my first Apple Watch Series 6 diary on Monday, I was still waiting for the arrival of my graphite stainless steel model. I am worried that graphite will replace space black. After a period of actual operation, the difference is obvious, but I don't think they will disrupt the transaction.

Before reading today’s diary, please read the first:

Over the years, Apple has provided a range of blacks in different shades in its product line, from the black iPhone 7 to the space gray used in today’s iPhone 11. The surface of the stainless steel deep space black Apple Watch is closer to the jet black end. This is a glossy dark black finish with almost no visible reflections.

This year, Apple replaced the Apple Watch Space Black finish with a new graphite stainless steel finish. From a distance, it looks similar to the space black option it replaces: it is darker than the silver stainless steel model, but not as dark as the space black model.

The difference between space black and graphite finish is enough for fans of space black to easily notice the difference, even if they look similar from a distance. Graphite is significantly lighter than space black and is more reflective.

It's more difficult to shoot, but this is my best attempt:

As you'd hope, these differences are subtle and obvious, but for people from the early space black Apple Watch models, I don't think the graphite change is a deal breaker.

This is another comparison under direct sunlight:

In addition to aesthetics, the other main reason I upgraded from Apple Watch Series 4 was the aging battery life. As I explained earlier this week, my Apple Watch Series 4 battery will have a maximum capacity of 82% after two years.

Although Apple promised the same 18-hour battery life as the Series 6 this year, a recent iFixit teardown revealed that the actual battery itself is about 3% larger. Apple also said that the charging speed of Apple Watch Series 6 is 20% faster than that of Series 5.

Since last week, I have been monitoring the battery life of my real-world Apple Watch Series 6, including sleep tracking, exercise, etc. This is the two-day sample size of the results:

One of the most worrying factors for me is the inconsistent impact of sleep tracking on battery life. On some nights, it is between 5% and 10%, while on other nights it is as high as 22%. I noticed this during the entire watchOS 7 beta test, but even though watchOS 7 is released stably, the problem still exists.

In my next edition of the Apple Watch diary, I will introduce in detail the blue Apple Watch Series 6 and its matching degree with various Apple Watch straps, as well as details about my cellular network usage and S6 processor performance improvements. Information, and more.

any problem? Have you upgraded to Apple Watch Series 6? If so, what do you think? Let me know in the comments!
