HFfree battery anode material process patent approved

IP Australia accepts EcoGraf(TM) HFfree purification technology patent

EcoGraf Limited ("EcoGraf" or "Company") (ASX: EGR; FSE: FMK; OTCQX: ECGFF) is pleased to report that the Australian Government Patent Office has confirmed acceptance of the company's patent application through the Australian Intellectual Property Office. Unique EcoGraf(TM) HFfree purification technology.

The company requested expedited examination based on the positive written opinions of the international patent agency, that is, all 25 patent claims are novel and inventive (see ASX Announcement International Patent Examiner Confirms Process Novelty and Invention, dated November 8, 2021 ).

The purification technology was first developed by EcoGraf in Australia and improved through extensive testing and analysis in Europe and Asia. The summary of the 5-year process development plan prior to filing the patent application is shown below.

EcoGraf(TM) HFfree purification is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective process that uses natural flake graphite to produce high-quality battery anode materials. The technology supports the development of the company's new Australian battery anode material facility, and has also been proven to be able to recover anode materials from the lithium-ion battery production process and scrap batteries.

The effectiveness of the EcoGraf(TM) HFfree process has been proven using a series of different graphite raw materials produced in Asia, Africa and South America, and recently performed better than existing industry reference materials during independent electrochemical cell testing (see ASX announcement for successful completion Product certification is planned for October 18, 2021).

The company’s most advanced battery anode material facility in Western Australia will be the world’s first plant of its kind, and it will export high-quality, sustainable battery anode material products to the anode, lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle markets in Asia, Europe and North America. .

As part of the development of new facilities with a zero-waste operating concept, EcoGraf launched a global product development program to enter higher-value customer markets and maximize the economic and sustainable advantages of the EcoGraf(TM) HFfree purification process . The initial focus of these plans is to produce low-emission recarburizers, ultra-fine battery conductivity enhancers, and high-purity fine powders for lubrication, thermal efficiency, and refractory applications for the steel industry (see ASX announcement EcoGraf to launch a global dual product development plan 2021 November 5th).

The company has also applied for the registration of the following trademarks to provide clear market recognition for EcoGraf HFfree products to its global customer base.

EcoGraf is establishing a diversified battery anode material business to produce high-purity graphite products for the lithium-ion battery and advanced manufacturing markets. To date, more than 30 million U.S. dollars have been invested to create two highly attractive development-ready graphite businesses.

The first state-of-the-art new EcoGraf processing facility in Western Australia will use the excellent and environmentally friendly HFfree purification technology to produce spherical graphite products exported to Asia, Europe and North America, providing customers with sustainable high-performance battery anode materials. Subsequently, the battery graphite production base will be expanded to include additional processing facilities in Europe and North America to support the global transition to clean, renewable energy and the rapid growth of battery materials in the next decade.

In addition, the company uses its EcoGrafTM process to recycle carbon anode materials from recycled batteries, which will enable the recycling industry to reduce battery waste and use recycled carbon anode materials to improve battery life cycle efficiency.

To supplement these battery graphite business, the company also promotes TanzGraphite natural flake graphite business and develops the Epanko graphite project, which will provide additional raw materials for battery anode material facilities and provide customers with long-term high-quality graphite supplies for industrial applications, such as Refractory materials, recarburizers and lubricants.
